HOW TO BE HUMAN. FOR WEIRDOS, BY WEIRDOS.
AEOLIAN AFTERNOON is the latest transmission from Charles
Jeffrey LOVERBOY.
Unfolding through a series of familiar yet uncanny daytime television show segments hosted by LOVERBOY creatures Grom and Lin, the newest collection takes place in a soft-apocalyptic media landscape. Part Lynchian, part Mighty Boosh, with a dash of Loose Women to boot, the result is unmistakably LOVERBOY. At the centre of this episodic daytime drama sits the OGB—the Ominous Growing Brick—a looming monolith that embodies the algorithms, consumer culture, and the endless demand for attention shaping contemporary life.
This wild, weird world, in which fashion, entertainment, commerce and the very pursuit of survival itself have become impossible to pull apart, offers crucial context for theSS27 collection presented here. Building on themes introduced in AW26, the collection explores the collision between analogue craft and digital ennui, artistic expression and commercial reality. Developed through drawing, collage, and DIY experimentation, AEOLIAN AFTERNOON is, above all, a celebration of physical making, being, and believing.
The collection combines the brand’s signature gender fluid inclusivity with “allergic” tailoring that twists and distorts familiar LOVERBOY archetypes. Pieces mutate into odd new forms, including the cursed animal-bag family, floral artisanal beanies, and handcrafted embellishments that offer moments of warmth within an otherwise unstable landscape. Rips, splatters, and chemical treatments elevate the many military- and vintage-inspired garments across the collection, featuring a
Renaissance-inspired colour palette taken directly from fruit and vegetables, cut up and copied by the design team themselves. The DIY spirit that charges the collection renders each piece lovingly handmade in the way only a teenage punk might dare to: denim appears to have been dragged through the mud, deconstructed shoes look as if they were rebuilt by hand, knitted details have been wonkily completed, perhaps entirely from memory.
Indeed, these recurring signatures and others evolve into warped silhouettes, while techniques developed at Charles Jeffrey No Wave Couture introduce transformative new sculptural approaches. The gonzo garment layering featured here, as styled by Charles Jeffrey himself, becomes, in all their misshapen maximalism, a kind of protest. An off-kilter call to action encouraging LOVERBOY lovers that mess is best, so go out thereinto the world and fuck it up yourself. All you need are your own two hands. Named for the Aeolian minor scale, the brand’s latest creative offering once again features music as a critical component. Alongside the collection, AEOLIAN AFTERNOON likewise launches a new single produced by Tom Furse and Robert Fox. Inspired by the long-form compositions of Terry Riley and the atmosphere of continuous television transmissions, the soundtrack drifts through each video like a fuzzy broadcast signal.
Across fashion, music, image and performance, AEOLIAN AFTERNOON serves not only as a broadcast vehicle to showcase the latest chapter from the brand, but as a teaser for what’s to come from Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY for the foreseeable future. A statement, loud and proud, from a truly digital-first DIY brand taking a couturier’s approach to youth style the world over.
